Selinunte Selinunte
(in Greek, Selinos, in Latin Selinus) was an ancient Greek city on the south-west
coast of Sicily. The archaeological site is composed of five temples built around
an acropolis. Of the five temples, only Temple E (the so-called Era Temple) has
been rebuilt. The city ruins can be found in the archaeological park which is,
today, considered to be the largest and most impressive in Europe: it extends
for 1740km2 and includes numerous temples, shrines and altars. |  |
Trapani,
Trapani situated between the sea and mount Erice, “Drepanon” (the city’s ancient
name) originated around its port, originally as a small village, later as a small
fortified town, where for many centuries fishermen, merchants, artisans of different
races lived, for example, the Elymians who populated Erice, or like the Ionic
people. A small maritime city, founded by the Phoenicians, who arrived from the
Mediterranean and made Trapani into a commercial trading centre. |  |
